What Is Stephen Ministry?
Our congregation's Stephen Ministry equips lay people to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives.
New
Hackensack Reformed Church became a Stephen Ministry church when, in the
Spring of 2004, the first class of eight Stephen Ministers was
commissioned. Each had received 50 hours of training since the Fall of
2003 in providing emotional and spiritual care with an emphasis in
confidentiality, compassion, listening and reaching out in God's love to
hurting members of our congregation, and several caring one on one
relationships were formed. In the years that followed, several more
classes were trained and commissioned. While there are currently no
active Stephen Ministry relationships ongoing, the ministry has fostered
long term loving relationships that continue to this day, and provided
training not only to perform within this ministry but for a heart of
compassion and sharing of God's love in every day life. If you or
someone you know would benefit from this ministry, please contact Rev.
Tamlyn.
